Now maybe Sanders is the evil man, and Biden is the righteous man, and Mr. Democratic Establishment here is righteousness protecting Joe in the Valley of Darkness. Or maybe Sanders is the righteous man, and Biden is the evil man, and Sanders is the shepherd tending to his flocks, and it’s the world that is evil and is selfish, but childlike and stupid.
I’d like that. But that shit ain’t the truth. The truth is, we are the weakened, and Mr. Establishment is smart and ruthless, and Fish is the tyranny of colors and pencils who has no health care coverage nor labor protections just like the rest of us. There are some strange things occurring now.
The virus looks like a remake of something on the order of the Spanish Flu, 1918. The entire country of China has managed to stop the spread there by making 1.5 billion inhabitants stay home. It’s true. The streets in every province are nearly empty! And that’s been true for a month. And they have brought their R0 value, a measure of transmission, way way down.
Is the US going to do that? That would be martial law. How will people get paid? How will people get food? Etc. But if they don’t , a lot of people, mostly older perhaps, are going to die. And it’s hard to imagine what the economy looks like after that.
This is all coming. I’m sure the insiders knew this and that it played a role in the way the Democratic establishment got behind Biden. But I don’t yet understand where it takes us. Maybe they figure that a near societal collapse gives Biden as good a chance as Sanders. I wonder what they say behind doors.
