Tired of the yearly proselytizing of Linus from the darkened school auditorium stage about how the birth of a 2,000-year-old magic baby whose mother was famous for being a 12-year-old virgin and whose father was famous for being the very first Wikipedia with a beard and a horrible temper is something we all need to accept without question while elbowing common sense and simple science out of the way with the sort of myopic fanaticism that put ISIS on the map? Or how about Jimmy Stewart discovering that learning how to embrace the simple joy of Christmas is about NOT committing suicide after zigzagging through a 2-hour narrative that, to be honest, lays out some pretty convincing justifications for why someone should throw himself off a bridge in the middle of a snowstorm? And then, of course, there’s the story of a mutant reindeer with no friends, except for a closeted and unlicensed homosexual dentist and a reclusive prospector driven mad by a yowling greed for precious metals, who demonstrates how there’s still hope for those of us who are different, but only if the supreme leader figures out a way to exploit our birth defect.
Well, it’s time to break the cycle of retreading the redundancy in that worn out yuletide wheel! There’s a new story of hope and redemption to gather the kiddies around this holiday season! It’s Pablo Bryant’s award-winning documentary about an opinionated shut in with glasses, a fistful of pencils and absolutely no strategy for securing a reliable income for himself or his family. Cue the sound of sleigh bells and placenta expulsion amid the chomping of hay – it’s time to rejoice in some foul and accusatory merriment! Happy holidays!
Everybody needs to watch this. It shows in true form how this bearded dude with exemplary talent…is really doing all the hard lifting of truth telling in the face of established norms. But he doesn’t pat himself on the back like that, I’m the ass kisser here.
After that and destroying everything that “is” christmas, (doesn’t deserve a capitalist capital) read this hard working guy’s book, NOBODY LEFT. As a lover of reading I can tell you it’s truly stunning. Buy it from him though not ugh, Amazon. Which as of today goes on my boycott list.
