Question for Mr. Fish about another piece: In, “Endgame”, the drawing you did for Chris Hedges at Scheerpost (“Let’s Stop Pretending America Is a Functioning Democracy”) why is the queen Sean Penn? And who are the other faces?
By the way, I love your work. I am such a big fan I’d probably scream like a teenage girl at a Beatles concert if I were ever in the same room with you.
Ha! You’re right – the queen does look like Sean Penn. Damn. None of the faces are supposed to be anybody – at least nobody I’m aware of. Sometimes I think my subconscious is playing a game with me that’s rooted in high hilarity. Wouldn’t it be great if I just now went back through my archives only to realize that every anonymous person I’ve ever rendered in my work is really Bea Arthur? Indeed, I’d probably have to stop being an atheist if Samuel Beckett turned out to be the Creator. Dig it!
This is so weird…I played the rock in Bea Arthur’s shoe in Beckett’s “Waiting For Godot.” It’s that experience that made me an atheist.
Thanks for the excellent work!
You play well with pencils!

I am glad I did not spend too much time trying to figure out the other faces. I did spend some time, though.
By the way, I see Bea Arthur everywhere, but I don’t think that fact has anything to do with your artwork.
