Merek Edelman: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marek_Edelman
He was a hero of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. A bit of controversial figure in history. He did not move to Israel. Rather, he saw the struggle of Palestinians in their occupied land as not dissimilar to his own struggle against the Nazi once-occupiers of Warsaw.

I read once that Edelman said about the Warsaw ghetto uprising, “we had no control over how we lived, but we could control how we died.” It was my first thought after the Hamas attack. Does anyone think those Hamas fighters thought they would “win”? That they did not know how this would go? They were choosing how to die, and unfortunately, making the choice many others.
