Like everyone else posting with you, I’m not surprised by UPenn’s “decision”. Your work is treasured throughout the world, and Mr. Fish now swims in a wider sea. Tomorrow we march again in Dublin, and I still carry the double placard- on one side, Bibi the Butcher of Gaza, and on the other (same side when you think about it) Trump emerging from the blasted face of George Washington. ¡Hasta la victoria siempre!

The guy who put his hand up in front of the tank at Tiananmen Square back in 1989 probably lost his job too. Universities were not on the right side of history in past struggles, why should they be now? They have these classes that teach Foucault, Fanon, Aime Cesaire, Noam Chomsky, Norman Finkelstein, et al, but goodness forbid you internalize these teachings and act…That’s why many do not call it ‘education’, rather being ‘processed’.

I’m sorry to hear that Fish lost his job.
On Chomsky, I would just say that his work in linguistics was absolutely astonishing. Universal grammar was so, so cool. But he also turned out to be wrong on that, with Hinton and others turning out to be right. And he is also wrong on AGI. Most intellectuals, such as Ezra Klein, are now announcing that AGI is 2 to 3 years away.
Could Chomsky and others be wrong on the United States and Israel? I think they very well could be. I think it would be good to see a debate between Sam Harris and Chris Hedges again, for example, but it is unlikely to happen.
